Selb’s Wiesenfest – already in June?
After a strenuous week of training with many presentations and intense discussions, everyone had really earned a festive "grand finale" by Friday. “What is going on here?” “Who on earth are these people?” “What are they doing with all those cameras and since when does anyone go bar-hopping in Selb already on a beautiful Friday afternoon?” These and similar questions were written all over the faces of some locals last Friday, as they ran across one group after another storming through the bars, restaurants and cafés of quiet downtown Selb with cameras and colorful NETZSCH tags. The occasion was the culmination of the annual International Sales Meeting at NETZSCH Analyzing & Testing, organized this year in conjunction with NETZSCH Gerätebau’s annual company summer party, to celebrate the exceptional Fiscal Year 2007. Having been kept in the dark about all details other than the theme, “NETZSCH Hunt for the Wiesenfest”, all NETZSCH employees were summoned along with our international guests to the courtyard of the company on Wittelsbacher Street on Friday at 3 p.m. to begin the festivities together. Here we let the cat out of the bag. We would be going on a scavenger hunt through Selb. After a short greeting, the mass of people was quickly divided up into teams and things got going – first of all, each team had to visit three different stations representing the respective Business Units within the NETZSCH Group and solve a product-related, quiz-type problem at each. Afterwards, the groups were given the task of “gathering points” by visiting as many bars in Selb as possible within the next few hours, having a drink and taking a group photo at each. Along the way, they shouldn’t forget to also take a group photo with some animal somewhere – the crazier, the better – and yet, to hurry, because any group arriving at Goldberg Park after 6:00 p.m. would lose points from their score! This explains the chaos in the town, which raised astonished glances from passers-by and, by the way, did not go unnoticed even by the Selb police (see photo)! At the end of this scavenger hunt of the strangest kind, the Wiesenfest tent – or at least part of it – was awaiting the teams at Goldberg Park. Upon arrival, every individual was adorned with a heart-shaped giant cookie necklace as a sign of our truly “heartfelt” greeting, and then the party really got started – not even the pouring rain that had begun in the meantime could dampen the good mood! The Waldnaabtaler Band started up the music, and there was plenty of food and drink with lots of snacks and great-tasting beer. Whoever wanted could also try their hand at crossbow shooting and/or “Hahnenschlagen” (literally, “Rooster-Beating”), a Bavarian game vaguely reminiscent of “piñatas”, in which blindfolded players try to break a ceramic pot with a stick. So NETZSCH had its own small Wiesenfest on Friday evening this year after all… and it was a lovely finale to an intensive and successful week of work! |
