Montmorillonite
Montmorillonite can for example be found in natural clays. Such alumino silicates show several dehydration steps between room temperature and 1000°C. The DSC curve shows additional endo- and exothermal phase transitions at 868°C and 923°C (peak temperatures). The exothermal effect at 484°C (extrapolated onset) is caused by impurities.

Aragonite
Aragonite is a polymorphic modification of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). The sample tested here was a crystal with slide impurities on the surface (exothermal peaks at 461°C and 490°C). Due to the impurities, the mass loss during carbonate decomposition (43.71%) is slightly lower than the stoichiometrically calculated value (43.97%).
