NETZSCH Shows Its Curing Profile
The thermal and UV curing of coatings, paints, inks and adhesives were the focus of the European Coatings Show, which took place from March 31 to April 2, 2009 in Nuremberg. In Hall 6, at Booth 221 of the Congress Center – making a joint appearance with the NETZSCH Grinding & Dispersing Business Unit – NETZSCH Analyzing & Testing presented its Photo-DSC 204 F1 Phoenix® with automatic sample changer, which can be used with almost any commercial lamp system and features a unique sample changer for up to 64 samples. Various comb sensors for cure monitoring by means of Dielectric Analysis (DEA) were also presented and their optimal application was discussed in depth with our booth visitors. The TG 209 F3 Tarsus thermo-microbalance with automatic sample changer for up to 20 samples was also on display. This instrument is capable of measuring both the thermostability and the solvent retention of paint films and adhesives that are already cured. Our users’ seminar for paints and adhesives technology, which took place in the “Riga” Room of the Nuremberg Congress Center (CCN East) already on the first day of the show, was very well received by numerous participants from Germany and Austria. Sales Manager Dr. Heinz Niedrig from NETZSCH-Gerätebau started off the seminar with an introduction to thermoanalytical measuring methods, after which Dr. Stefan Mende, R&D Manager from NETZSCH-Feinmahltechnik, gave a presentation about grinding and dispersing in agitator bead mills. Gerhard Reich from Tiger Coatings in Wels, Austria then discussed the various factors influencing the glass transition temperature for powder coatings. Stephan Knappe, Manager of Applications & Services at NETZSCH-Gerätebau, presented examples of UV curing in paints, inks and adhesives which had been measured with the Photo-DSC 204 F1 Phoenix® and the DEA 231/1 Epsilon and then kinetically analyzed. Prof. Dr. Thomas Rödel from the University of Applied Sciences in Merseburg discussed optimization of the drying and curing of clear coats for plastic auto parts by means of DEA. Lastly, Stephan Knappe presented the versatile application possibilities for Dynamic-Mechanical Analysis (DMA) in the adhesives sector. On April 1, 2009, at the congress which took place parallel to the show, NETZSCH’s applications specialist Stephan Knappe presented his lecture “Cure Monitoring of Reactive Adhesives” and discussed how dielectric analysis can be used for thermal and UV curing even in online processes. The show and parallel events were a great success as expected, and NETZSCH is looking forward to seeing you again at the next European Coatings Show in 2011! |
