Conferment of the NETZSCH-GEFTA Young Scientist Award 2009
On the occasion of the 2009 annual meeting of GEFTA (the Society for Thermal Analysis for German-Speaking Countries), the NETZSCH-GEFTA Young Scientist Award was presented to Dr. Heiko Huth from the University of Rostock. A progression of fundamental work is thereby being honored which had emerged under the scientific direction of Professor Christoph Schick and which has made experimental and theoretical contributions to the rapidly developing area of AC calorimetry. The outstanding experimental skills of the award recipient have made it possible to carry out AC calorimetry on samples in the nanogram range, a feat which was critically dependent on the development of a differential AC chip calorimeter. Commercial distribution of this instrument is already underway via the “Verein Funktionale Materialien Rostock e.V.”. About ten instruments have already been sold in Europe, the US and China. The award recipient’s work here played a decisive role in the developmental success. The excellent scientific quality of the associated publications was also honored with the conferment of the Outstanding Paper Award 2006, an award presented by the Measurement Science and Technology Journal. Dr. Huth’s scientific education began at the Martin-Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg, where he followed an initial course of studies in physics which culminated with his diploma thesis in 1997. In 2001, he received his PhD from the same university under the mentoring of Professor Donth with a thesis in experimental physics entitled “Broad-Band Heat-Capacity Spectroscopy – Temperature-Dependent Cooperativity in the Crossover Region and in the Course of Dynamic Glass Transition”. He then worked in several post-doctoral positions, one of which was at the University of Eindhoven, a leading center of research & development worldwide in Dr. Huth’s field. The GEFTA Board together with NETZSCH, the award sponsor, cordially congratulate Dr. Huth on this award and wish health and good fortune to him and his family along with best of success for the future in his professional scientific career. Representing the GEFTA Board Dr. Michael Feist Chairman |
