Nowadays, the mission of modern tires is quite difficult making the requirement list too long. To mention just the important, safe handling, optimal braking behavior, excellent grip or stiffness, all these are mandatory for all roads and under all climatic conditions. Low fuel consumption and comfortable driving behavior are additionally necessary. However, since none of these properties is free of conflict, a compromise is the goal of every tire design. The high forces dynamic-mechanical analysis (HF-DMA) is a well-established measurement technique for rubber and tire testing. HF-DMA provides the mechanical properties like elasticity, damping or grip and deliver information about wet traction, rolling resistance and handling performance of the tire treads.

This webinar series will describe all aspects of HF-DMA and identify the tire tread performance from measurement results. In the first part, the fundamentals of HF-DMA using the DMA GABO EPLEXOR® and the typical testing series are presented. In the second part, the measurement results are discussed with regard to tire tread performance like wet traction, rolling resistance and handling performance.

Part 2: Key performance indicators for tire tread compounds by means of high forces dynamic-mechanical

The webinar series covers different aspects of high forces dynamic-mechanical analysis (HF-DMA) and identify the tire tread performance from measurement results. 

In the first part, the fundamentals of HF-DMA using the DMA GABO EPLEXOR® and the typical testing were presented. The measurement results were discussed and key performance indicators like wet traction, rolling resistance and handling performance were determined. 

In the second part, after a brief review of the HF-DMA basics, key performance indicators for tire tread compounds depending on different rubber formulations are analyzed.
