Webinar Series: How to Benefit from Combining TG and FT-IR

Part 1: Material Composition

The analysis of material composition is twofold: one is the analysis of the chemical composition, which is achieved by FT-IR spectroscopy and can analyze all components including additives and residues. However, to understand the content of each component and their thermal stability, TG is required. The latest advances in TG and TG-FT-IR instrumentation will be presented including examples of plasticizer content in sporting goods and blend composition in household appliances.

Part 2: Failure Analysis

The TG-FT-IR combination greatly improves failure analysis because it reveals chemical processes that occur during high-temperature decomposition. The latest advances in TG-FT-IR instrumentation and applications for the failure analysis of various products will be reviewed with a thorough discussion of the following topics: - detection of residues - analysis of additives - analysis of decomposition processes - evaporation, outgassing - analysis of competitor products Examples of applications will include identification of plasticizers and softeners in polymers, a case study of failure analysis of PVC cable coatings, evaluation of HCl amount during polymer decomposition, decomposition of propellant oxidizer.
