Potassium Nitrate — Phase Transitions

Potassium nitrate (KNO3) is used for the synthesis of gunpowder (sulphur, char and KNO3). It is also used in food preservation (E252) and as an important potassium- and nitrogencontaining fertilizer. The measurement was carried out in scanning mode with a constant power input of 200 mW. Two endothermal effects at 129°C (peak area of -45 J/g) and at 334°C (-87 J/g) are related to phase transitions. (measurement with MMC 274 Nexus®)

Multiple Module Calorimeter MMC 274 Nexus®

The MMC 274 Nexus® can be used in conjunction with the DSC and the Accelerating Rate Calorimeter where its special features better match the application. The MMC 274 Nexus® is used for measuring heats of reaction, reaction rates, endotherms, heat capacities, phase changes, gas generation rates and vapor pressures.
