Webinar: High Temperature Thermal Diffusivity Measurements

Thermal diffusivity by xenon flash and laser flash is the primary testing method to obtain thermal conductivity above ambient. High temperature materials studied at ORNL include thermal barrier coatings, carbon-bonded carbon fiber (CBCF), ceramics, composites, high temperature alloys and thermoelectric materials. Selected application examples will be presented as well as special case studies on molten metals and the effect of pressure on porous materials. Finally, metrology of the diffusivity method will be discussed based on round-robin studies under the International Energy Agency (IEA).
