Workshop Focus on DSC
Thermal Analysis is a group of methods in which the thermophysical properties of a substance or a mixture are measured as a function of temperature or time while the substance is subjected to a controlled temperature program. Exact thermal data is the basic requirement for material syntheses, for describing a material’s behavior, for exact material selection. Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) is the most commonly used thermal analysis method, primarily because of its speed, simplicity, and availability. This workshop will cover the basic principles of DSC including influential factors, sample preparation, methodical considerations, measurement artefacts and evaluation of measurement results along with practical applications and hand-on experience using the NETZSCH DSC 214 Polyma. We will also discuss advanced methods including modulated DSC (TM-DSC), high-pressure DSC (HP-DSC), photocalorimetry (UV-DSC) and specific heat determination.
