I will talk about several unusual projects performed over the years with NETZSCH STA 409, STA 404, and STA 449 instruments. They include measurements of gas adsorption enthalpies and surface energies , and evaluation of soil organic matter loss after fire . I will also discuss the issues of thermal analysis databases and our current use of the NETZSCH 409 instrument to test Calphad predictions of melting behavior of Martian and Lunar regoliths.
